I’ve been overweight pretty much my whole life. I love sweets, I love savory. I love food!
I don’t love exercise & don’t really do any (unless you count chasing kids around & walking to the mailbox & back) I don’t & hence this is why we are where we are now.
I’ve tried many different diets over the years, weight watchers, body trim, lite n easy & celebrity slim, just to name a few and whilst they’ve all resulted in weight loss, as soon as I start to eat normally again the weight slowly but surely creeps back on.
I’m not the heaviest I’ve ever been but I need & want to lose weight obviously, but I also want to improve my overall health & fitness. I have TWO very good reasons for wanting to stick around here for awhile. I want to be able to participate in their lives more & be a good role model for them as they’re getting older.
But I’m tired of the yo-yo dieting, of counting calories & forking out ridiculous amounts of money for the next latest & greatest quick fix. So I’ve declared this month to be “Fit & Fab Feb”
I know if I’m going to do this properly it needs to be lifestyle change & I need to go slowly. I’m hoping by making little changes throughout the month they’ll be easier to achieve & maintain. Of course when the month is over these goals won’t stop, I’ll have hopefully set myself up in creating healthy habits that I can continue & then slowly start to introduce a few more.
So this month my focus is on
*starting the day with warm lemon water
*drinking more water throughout the day
*moving more- aim to exercise at least 3 times a week
*cut down/cut out processed foods where possible & eat more fresh & healthier food choices
*no soft drinks for the month
*try to reduce amount of sugar in my tea or drink more herbal blends that don’t require it
That said, I’m also going to allow myself to slip & not beat myself up when I do. I’m only human so if I don’t make the best choices every now & again that’s ok… it’s a lifestyle, I still have to live. I still want to enjoy the odd treat or meal when out with friends or on special occasions & not worry about it. But it’s about balance & being aware & making better choices more often. If I’m craving chocolate, I might have 2 squares of quality dark chocolate instead of scoffing the whole block. When I want a snack, instead of reaching for a sugary, salty packaged treat, I’ll aim for fresh fruit, nuts or something homemade if I really REALLY want it.
So 10 days into the month & so far, so good. I’m going well. I’ve enjoyed a night out with friends where I indulged in pizza & wine-guilt free. I’ve been walking my son to & from preschool & getting out for the odd walk when I can. No soft drink has passed these lips & I’m eating more fruit & veg. I also lost just over 1/2 a kilo in this first week so I’m on my way to feeling & being “Fit & Fab”
Anyone want to join me in making some little changes this month that can help you feel the same?
I’m ready. Bring on the rest of Feb….
Lozzie x
Do you do diets? Are you on one now? What are your tips or tricks for helping you lose a few kilos? What’s one thing you can focus on this month to help you feel healthier?
I want to know it all, so leave a comment here, come say hi on Facebook or Instagram or all 3! I’d love to hear from you.
Hey Lozzie,
Well done on the Fit & Fab Feb! I find adding things in really helps rather then trying to take away at first as you said. And also finding exercises that I actually enjoy. e.g. I love swimming but don’t really like running so instead of forcing myself to run because it’s “the best calorie burner” I just swim instead! π
Hope that helps π

Thanks. Yep I find if I try to do too much all at once it’s just setting me up for failure but having little achievable goals to work on makes it less daunting. I love swimming, so completely understand π

Love your persistence and your attitude Lor. You can do it! Little by little, day by day. You are still such a beautiful girl to me no matter what but it is your health that is important. I haven’t had soft drink for ???? and cut sugar out of my tea for at least two years. Just take it slowly. Will support you in whatever way I can. Lots of love xxx

Wow go you! That’s awesome! I’ve been super inspired by Smaggle and Kelly Exeter’s podcast “Straight and Curly.” I’ve been trying to drink two glasses of lemon water before I eat or drink anything else and am trying to eat 5 cups of veggies a day! I don’t always succeed but I’m trying. I’ve also prepped all fruit and veggies as soon as I buy them, so there’s always something healthy to snack on in the fridge! Here’s to fit, fabulous and most of all… happy!

Yep preparation is key I find. I’m not always getting my lemon water in each day either & exercise can be hit & miss, but that’s why I’m starting small so I can build up & I figure at this stage anything is better than what I was doing before π I’m not sure I really get podcasts but will need to look into it as I hear there are some good ones going around π

Good on you for making a commitment (and blogging it!). My biggest tip when it comes to exercise is to only commit to 5 minutes in your mind. I always do this and ALWAYS end up doing more than five minutes once I get going. But on those ‘can’t be bothered’ days at least you’ve done five minutes xxx

Thank you. Yep blogged it so as to keep myself accountable π Great tip, 5 mins does seem like no biggie & I’m sure once you’re in the swing of it you do just keep on going… I’ll keep this one in mind!

Um so I had a whole other comment about being all yoyo with my eating but that went out the window when I was reading the other comments. I LOVE YOUR MUM!!! What a sweetheart and that her name is Mum on the comment. Give her a weird/uncomfortable/you don’t know me hug from me. π

Go you! I carry a bottle of water around with me to make sure I drink more water throughout the day, and have switched to sparkling mineral water instead of wine most nights during the week. It is all about balance though and not feeling like you’re being deprived of enjoyment in the meantime. I’m not going to beat myself up over the fact that I have chocolate in the evening, or have a wine instead of a water. I use my FitBit to motivate me to ensure I get my 10,000 steps done, but I know that some days I’m not going to get there due to being at a desk all day at work, so I fit in a run another day to balance it out. Do what makes you feel good and better and enjoy trying some new recipes!

Thank you. Yes reading this reminds me to go & have another glass of water. I just recently pulled my fit bit back out to try & help with the motivation to move!! But yes balance & being gentle in ourselves is the best way to go I think, it’s sustainable that way as opposed to depriving ourselves of everything & then binging later on π
